“Should we add some purple?..”

Long long ago.. in a land where thousands of flowers bloomed and thrived across the landscape when the sun was setting in the west.. hid a special place by the name of Purple Mountain which was in a smaller not so well know town in Kerry, Ireland. As a kid, young Brandon was known to frolic in the fields for hours upon hours with his head held high and not a worry in the world. At first, the people of Kerry weren’t so sure where this path would lead him, but he was always moving around spontaneously and quickly as if he were a warrior in the battle field! Brandon was a small kid, but fast and agile. This made him a very special candidate for certain school games. From ages 5-11, he was regionally known to be one of the best dodgeball players of his time. His parents and town closely followed his progress as he rose to the top of his career, breaking records upon records! He was nationally known at the age of 10 and was later scouted by the Prime Minister of Malaysia himself for Team Malaysia at age 16. Malaysia still has the highest ranked dodgeball team in the world and you could say that that was in part due to the dedication and skill Brandon gave to the team!

Sadly though, Brandon was in a “sudden death round” with Central African Republic legendary defender Eloge Enza-Yamissi. Little did Brandon know that in Africa “Sudden Death” was actually played with rocks instead of rubber balls, and Brandon suffered from a blunt forced trauma wound to the face and was forced to retire the game and his career. His face was heavily damaged and had to undergo facial reconstruction. It involved two rods that went into his cheeks in a “X” direction attached by 87 screws to other multiple plates surrounding his skull, all to keep both orbital cavities from caving in. In other words.. his face was absolutely crushed! And also thats why he has those dimples still to this day! No they are not real dimples!

At age 18 he was down for the count and bouncing around pickup leagues every week to make some extra cash to get by. He then left Malaysia 4 years post surgery(age 22) and headed out West! Out of all the places in the US he found Santa Rosa to be the spot to start his new life. He actually was interested in the fruit/flower cross-pollination techniques of Luther Burbank, which reminded him of being young and free on Purple Mountain running through flowers.

He ultimately fell back on art and really focused his thoughts on creativity! He says it saved his life! Through trial and error and many tattoo “guns” bought off of Amazon, he finally made it to the big show! He’s never brought up the tragic dodgeball event since he’s made it as a tattooer and we are all so proud that he can look past that and keep focused on his art here at The Monkey Wrench! He’s here to make cool tattoos, so be apart of his healing process!
